Mud Volcanos
Mud Volcanos are typically areas where pressurized gases, fluids, and loose fine grained soil is forced up through cracks and faults in the earth’s crust producing anything from slow constant bubbling(sometimes called “Mud-pots”) to explosive eruptions that spew mud and debris hundreds of feet into the sky. Since the pressurized gases are often flammable, these can sometimes even ignite, but are generally far less dangerous than their mountain making magma filled big brothers. Though there are several on the island, the Bunsee Trace Mud Volcano seems to be a must see for the adventurous type. Though reaching the pond-like mud volcano may require some hiking, it is a must do on many adventurers’ bucket lists. Apparently, hiking to the mud volcanos and soaking followed by another hike to a (relatively)nearby secluded beach to get cleaned up is a must do!
